Topographic maps of scale 1:50000 were published by the Institute of Geography and Military Infrastructure (formerly ITU), in the period 1960 - 1991 and cover the entire territory of the Republic of Albania. The number of trapezoids covering the Albanian territory is 82, where one trapezoid covers an area of about 397 km2. The method used to create these maps is the photomechanical one (generalization) from maps of larger scales, mainly 1: 25000. In some cases, a combined method has been used. The data are in conformity with the standard with the Council of Ministers No. 732, dated 27.11.2024, On the approval of the document "State Standards for Technical Specifications of Geospatial Information in Albania, Topic: Base Map".
