Topographic maps of scale 1:25 000 were published by the Geographical Institute and Military Infrastructure (former ITU), in the years 1959-1985 and cover the entire Albanian territory. The total number of trapezoids covering the Albanian territory is 362, with a total area of 35 817 km2. The content of the maps covering the Albanian territory is given in more detail and accuracy compared to the border ones, as it is mainly the result of stereophotogrammetric surveys, based on a rigorous geodetic foundation and on the basis of aerial photographs deciphered in the field shortly before their publication. Other methods used are photomechanical methods (generalization), based on topographic maps previously published by the ITU or other countries, and surveying with a compass. The data are in conformity with the standard with the VKM No. 732, dated 27.11.2024, On the approval of the document "State Standards for Technical Specifications of Geospatial Information in Albania, Topic: Base Map".
