These data are generated from the Ishëm and Erzen River Basin Management Plans, approved respectively by VKM no. 624, dated 8.11.2023 for the Ishëm 2024-2029 PMBU and VKM no. 623 dated 8.11.2023 for the Erzen 2024-2029 PMBU. The data represent the ecological status of surface water bodies. Good ecological status is the status of a surface water body, classified in accordance with point 2 of article 41 of Law 29/2024 as amended and is determined based on the assessment of the analysis of pressures and impacts on water bodies, within the framework of the implementation of the first 6-year cycle of the PMBL. Good ecological status is the state of a surface water body when biological, physico-chemical and hydromorphological elements show only minor changes from reference conditions, ensuring the maintenance of good environmental quality according to the applicable legal framework. In the classification of the ecological status of water bodies, colours are used to visually present the level of quality and the degree of human impact on the waters. They help to quickly understand the status, especially in maps and reports of the BMP. Here is what each colour usually represents: Blue – Very good ecological status – Indicates almost natural waters, with minimal human impact. Biological, physico-chemical and hydromorphological elements are very close to reference conditions. Green – Good ecological status – There are only minor changes from natural conditions. The ecosystem functions well and the environmental objectives of the legal framework are achieved. Yellow – Moderate status – Visible deviations from good status occur. Anthropogenic pressures are present and remedial measures are required. Orange – Poor status – Ecological changes are significant; biological elements are damaged and water quality is problematic. Red – Poor ecological status – Indicates severe degradation of the water body, with strong human impacts and the need for urgent rehabilitation interventions. The data are in accordance with the standard with the Council of Ministers No. 829, dated 7.10.2015, On the approval of the document “State Standards for Technical Specifications of the Geospatial Information Infrastructure in Albania – Theme Hydrography”.
