The high-precision leveling network is a unique network that covers the entire territory of the Republic of North Macedonia and allows for reliable maintenance of the vertical datum. The high-precision leveling network serves as the basis for the development of lower-order leveling networks.
The accuracy of the relative vertical position of the benchmarks in the high-precision leveling network should be +/- 1 mm / √km. The following quantities are determined in the high-precision leveling network: height differences, differences in the acceleration of the force of gravity and coordinates of the benchmarks in the spatial reference system. The reference surface coincides with the mean level of the Adriatic Sea determined on the basis of tide gauge measurements carried out at the tide gauge in Trieste in 1875.
