By the end of the planning horizon (2034 - the horizon of approaching the basic goals of spatial development), Donji Vakuf should become a municipality that develops harmoniously in a manner consistent with environmental interests, with a dynamic knowledge-based economy, with a pleasant social and cultural environment oriented towards sustainable development, and to prove itself as a business, tourist and educational-cultural center, with highly developed capacities for production and attracting investments, with civil society actively involved in the decision-making process (with communication with the municipal administration) and with continuous growth in citizens' income.

Općina Donji Vakuf je usvojila Prostorni plan Općine Donji Vakuf (2014 – 2034. godina), 2017. godine (Odluka o usvajanju Prostornog plana 01-23-00762/17, Službeni glasnik Općine Donji Vakuf, broj 2/17). U periodu nakon usvajanja Plana, uočeni su određeni problemi u njegovoj implementaciji. Evidentiran je pojačani interes investitora za izgradnju objekata fotonaponskih električnih centrala. Iz tog razloga se pristupilo izradi Izmjena i dopuna Prostornog plana općine (u daljem tekstu Plan). Općinsko vijeće je na sjednici održanoj 02.04.2024. godine donijelo Odluku o izradi Izmjena i dopuna Prostornog plana općine Donji Vakuf, po skraćenom postupku (br. 01-19-00684/24), što je i objavljeno u Službenom glasniku općine Donji Vakuf (Službeni glasnik Općine Donji Vakuf, broj 03/24).
